Adam Jones' Trip to Fenway

Adam Jones received a standing ovation from Boston Red Sox fans on Tuesday, the day after the Baltimore Orioles outfielder said he faced racial slurs and had a bag of peanuts thrown at him during Monday's game at Fenway Park.

Jones had told journalists after Monday's game about the treatment, reported Boston.com. The Red Sox gave public and private apologies to Jones once they learned about the comments.

"It's different," Jones said about playing Monday at Fenway, adding he was called the n-word a handful of times during the game. "Very unfortunate. I heard there was 59 or 60 ejections tonight in the ballpark. It is what it is, right. I just go out and play baseball. It's unfortunate that people need to resort to those type of epithets to degrade another human being. I'm trying to make a living for myself and for my family."

Tuesday was as different story. Red Sox president Sam Kennedy issued a statement in response to Jones' comments, "The Red Sox want to publicly apologize to Adam Jones and the entire Orioles organization for what occurred at Fenway Park Monday night," said Kennedy. "No player should have an object thrown at him on the playing field, nor be subjected to any kind of racism at Fenway Park. Such conduct should be reported immediately to Red Sox security, and any spectator behaving in this manner forfeits his/her right to remain in the ballpark, and may be subject to further action. Our review of last night's events is ongoing."

When Jones came to bat for the first time Tuesday, he received the standing ovation from the fans. Boston.com said Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale stepped off the mound to allow fans to applaud Jones longer. This show of respect by the Red Sox organization can only hope to come close to making up for the inexcusable actions of a group of fans.
